Online Marketing

What is Yelp?

Yelp has come onto the online/social media marketing scene in a big way. First launched in 2004, Yelp is now a major resource for people who are looking to find out more about specific businesses. Having a good status on Yelp can help increase your client base and give your business credibility when used properly. A conglomeration of a review site and a social media network, many people are turning to Yelp to learn which businesses people like and which businesses are lacking.

Here are a few interesting facts about Yelp:

  • Reviews posted by individuals who have a reputation and a following on Yelp (i.e. people who have left reviews for many types of businesses over time) are ranked higher or more important than reviews by people who have only written one or two reviews
  • To earn those “People Love Us on Yelp” stickers, you have to have a high overall rating on Yelp. Yelp will send out those stickers a few times a year to qualified companies.
  • You can respond to reviews, both positive and negative, on Yelp. Thank a customer for their service and kind words and calmly, politely respond to unflattering reviews. This will show potential customers that you have class and that you are willing to work with them to solve problems.

Yelp pages are free and signing up for an account is simple. Just go to https://biz.yelp.com/ to get started. For more information on Yelp and how to effectively use your Yelp page to market your business, you can also contact the expert marketing team at BPI by emailing seo@bpihelpdesk.com.
